WebOS lives once more with open source beta ? Kian Leong ...

Although Hewlett Packard is now launching the beta for its WebOS mobile operating technique.

Although the TouchPad and Palm devices intended for it might have vanished, HP has continued to function on WebOS to turn it into an open source operating system.

The beta released nowadays consists of 54 WebOS elements, with 450,000 lines of code below the Apache two. license for developers to toy around with at their leisure.

It also includes two develop environments, 1 for desktop improvement on Ubuntu systems and a second OpenEmbedded develop that provides an ARM emulator to facilitate porting to new devices.

But who will use it?

Last December HP announced that it would contribute WebOS to the open supply community.

This means that like Android, any manufacturer can now create their gadget around WebOS license-free of charge.

Makers are not precisely clamoring to make WebOS devices even though, and with Google grabbing the Enyo group away from HP, the future of WebOS is not necessarily any more specific than it was eight months ago.

That all can adjust though. Now that WebOS is released in beta, developers can ultimately get their hands on it, which just may possibly lead to a second life for the enduring operating program.
