Afternoon Drive: NCAA president Mark Emmert made $1.7 million in 2011

In case you missed it, here's what's happening in college sports today, July 10.

1. Emmert made $1.7 million in 2011

According to the NCAA's tax return Mark Emmert was paid aproximately $1.7 million as priesident of the NCAA during the 2011 calendar year (September 2011 - August 2012).

2. College sports get a B in diversity

The 2012 College Sport Racial and Gender Report Card was issued Wednesday by the University of Central Flordia's Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport. Overall college sports was given a B for racial and gender hiring practices even though overall numbers have dipped slightly from last year.

3. Prison break fail

The girlfriend of one of the suspects involved in the robbery of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops' home attempted to bust the juvenile suspect out of a detention center.

According to Yahoo! Sports, "The juvenile called Paige Maurey on July 2 from the Alan J. Couch detention center and asked her to help him escape. Maurey, three other male juveniles and one female then got a hedge trimmer and drove together to the detention center. Maurey gave the male juveniles bandanas to conceal their identities, then left to go get gas with the female juvenile, the affidavit said.

While Maurey was away, a detention center employee saw someone peeking around the corner of a building inside the fence. Once seen, that subject hopped the fence and ran off, leaving behind the hedge cutters, which the employee found."

Maurey, 21, and all four juveniles were arrested.

4. Virginia forward out for 4-6 weeks

Virginia forward Akil Mitchell broke his hand at the LeBron James Skills Academy this week. Head coach Tony Bennett confirmed the injury in a news conference Wednesday and said that Mitchell's recovery would take between four and six weeks.

5. Henderson suspended indefinitely for failed drug test

Ole Miss has indefinitely suspended Marshall Henderson for a violation of team rules. The suspension is related to a failed drug test, according to CBSSports.com.
